Dan and Kelly first met while preparing and performing the iconic 1970 work Black Angels by George Crumb in 2019. Originally two members of a string quartet, they also performed chamber music of 20th and 21st-century composers György Kurtág, Alfred Schnittke, Arvo Pärt, Caroline Shaw, and William Grant Still.

In March 2020, Dan and Kelly’s scheduled quartet performances were canceled. To pass the time, they began playing duos together, starting with memorizing Maurice Ravel’s Sonata for Violin and Cello.

We co-teach orchestra at Urban Prairie Waldorf School. We are in the process of organizing and opening South Side Community Music School. Kelly teaches at South Side Suzuki Co-operative.

We are drawn to novel sounds out of curiosity, a sense of adventure… A pursuit of novel sounds and ways of making music strengthens our ears for a rapidly changing world.
