Missing Piece presents Migration
To recognize migration means understanding that everything we are part of is shaped by movement just as much as the things we think of as ‘permanent’. When we look at the natural world, we see that regular travel by animals or even inanimate matter leaves lasting marks. When we look at our communities, we see how they are defined by shared experience, however temporary, even more so than backgrounds of its individual members. How can we steward these importance places knowing that our meetings may seem brief but have more impact than we may imagine?
This season’s concerts make this guiding concept clear in many ways: the sonification of river data, the transience of improvisation, even the multicultural nuances of what we may think of as Western classical repertoire. Dan, Kelly, and their worldwide network of collaborators are migrating, too, and invite you to share in the experience as these projects travel from Chicago to New Orleans to the West Coast, from house concerts to major stages to debut records.
